Day developed her artistic abilities at an early age, joining the choir at United Methodist Church in Chula Vista and studying dance for 15 years. She attended Valencia Park Elementary School, where she became acquainted with jazz vocalists such as Billie Holiday, Ella Fitzgerald, and Dinah Washington.
